Art Nouveau lamp entitled: "Brise de Mer" translates to "Sea Breeze" in French Jean-
Baptiste Germain (Dec 28, 1841-1Sep 23, 910) French. academic sculptor. Signed G.B.
Germain Sculp(Sculptor) He was a well-regarded artist of the late 19th and early 20th
centuries. Well-known for his dynamic bronze allegories and classical figures. He often
worked alongside his sculptor brother Gustave Germain.
‘Sea Breeze’ with puto. Germain depicted a nymph or Venus accompanied by a cherub
(puto) and dolphin at its base while she gracefully holds aloft a torch. The price
depends on many factors but conversion to a lamp reduces its value. It appears to be
cast in spelter. Approx. size 48” tall x 24” wide.
