Antique in burl wood inlay fine desk elegant design with practical functionality and a floral decorative appeal, at the right-hand side is an arrangement of three lined drawers. The writing slope is fitted with a leather surface, finished with hand-applied gilt and blind tooling, offering a classic writing area. The slope lifts to reveal a well-appointed interior in beautifully figured burl maple, providing compartments for storage and organization. Design by W.J. Mansell was a prestigious 19th-century cabinet maker based on Fulham Road in London. The company built fine, high-quality antique desks, such as the Carlton House, cylinder, and pedestal styles. These desks typically use premium woods like burr walnut. The firm is credited with creating the original Davenport desk, which was designed in the early 19th century for Captain Davenport, an officer who required a compact, practical writing desk suitable for limited space. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
