This large Chinese eight-panel black lacquer folding screen dates to the Republic Period, circa 1925–1940. The front features a beautifully executed hand-decorated scholar landscape with figures, pine trees, bamboo, mountains, and stylized clouds rendered in warm amber and ochre tones against a rich black lacquer ground. The reverse is decorated with elegant gilt bamboo, allowing the screen to be displayed from either side.
Standing 84 inches high and over 10 feet wide when fully extended, this impressive screen makes a striking room divider or architectural focal point. Each panel is 15" and 1" thick. It retains its original brass hinges showcase the timeless craftsmanship of early 20th-century Chinese export lacquer work.
