This antique pot from Guatemala has a hand-formed clay construction with a deep, cylindrical body and broad open mouth. The vessel features a pair of sturdy loop handles positioned opposite one another just below the rim, allowing it to be carried or suspended. The thick walls and wide opening would have made it likely used in cooking beans and tamales. The surface displays a rich, naturally aged patina in warm terracotta and earthy brown tones, transitioning to dense blackened areas around the lower half as evidence from wood-fired cooking. The 24 inch width includes the handle. The diameter of the pot is approximately 20.5 inches. This early 20th century Guatemalan pot would make a striking decorative vessel for displaying wood fire starter sticks, as a rustic planter, or as a sculptural accent that brings warmth and historic character to an interior space.
