Shakespeare "The Taming of the Shrew" Steel Engraving by Charles Rolls, Published 1847
An authentic mid-19th century British steel engraving titled The Taming of the Shrew, engraved by noted British engraver Charles Rolls (1800-1857) after the 1838 painting by Charles Robert Leslie, R.A. (1794-1859).
Published in London in 1847 by J. Hogarth, 5 Haymarket, this is a finished "after letters" engraving, complete with title, artist, engraver, dedication, and publisher's imprint. It is not a proof impression.
The engraving illustrates one of William Shakespeare's most famous comedies and exhibits the remarkable detail and crisp line work for which Victorian steel engravings are admired.
The print remains mounted on what appears to be its old wooden stretcher, preserving an early method of display. This presentation gives the piece wonderful period character while highlighting its nearly 180-year history.

The image itself displays beautifully, and the engraving retains outstanding visual appeal.

A wonderful addition to a Shakespeare collection, Victorian library, English literature collection, or antique print gallery wall.
