Hand signed and numbered 13/50 on the verso. Printed by Michael Thomas, Joan Bolduc, Robin Higgs, Rebecca Atkinson. Published as part of “The Cranbrook Anniversary Suite”, produced in 1982 in honor of the 50th anniversary of Cranbrook Academy of Art. The composition presents a structured architectural gate rendered in a layered photographic and graphic format, reflecting McCoy’s interest in design systems and visual structure. This work represents McCoy’s role in late 20th-century American graphic design education and design history.

Katherine McCoy (b. 1945) is an American graphic designer and educator recognized for her influence on late 20th-century design theory and practice. She co-chaired the graduate design program at Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1971 to 1995, where she helped redefine graphic design education and contributed to the development of postmodern design discourse in the United States. McCoy is a recipient of the AIGA Medal, the organization’s highest honor, awarded for her contributions to the field of design and design education. Her work is included in major institutional collections, including the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. She has also received the Chrysler Award for Design Innovation and has been recognized for her leadership in advancing experimental typography and critical design thinking. See less
