A brilliantly atmospheric painting of Friesian cows in a landscape, executed in oil onto board.

It is a painting that finds beauty not in dramatic scenery, but in atmosphere and fleeting light. It is less a picture of cows in a field than a meditation on stillness, distance, and the soft veiling effects of mist.

The first thing that strikes you is the overwhelming sense of calm. A pale blanket of mist spreads across the landscape, dissolving hard edges and muting detail. The world feels suspended between night and day, perhaps in the first moments after dawn when sound is muffled and the landscape seems half remembered.

The horizon is low and distant, with a line of trees emerging like shadows through the haze. Their softened silhouettes reinforce the feeling of depth while maintaining the painting’s dreamlike quality.
