An exceptional and highly sculptural Japanese bronze zoomorphic jardinière, attributed to the workshop of Genryusai Seiya (active late 19th–early 20th century) and executed during the Meiji period, circa 1890–1910. Weighing an impressive 56 pounds, this monumental vessel demonstrates the technical sophistication and imaginative naturalism that made Seiya's workshop among the finest producers of Japanese export bronzes.

The rounded body is encircled by an extraordinary procession of finely modeled animal heads in high relief. Alternating around the circumference are fierce guardian lions (shishi), expressive monkeys with outstretched arms, and powerful bulls, each rendered with remarkable anatomical accuracy and richly chased surface detail. The sculptural program is mirrored on opposing sides, creating a harmonious composition intended to be appreciated from every angle. The vessel stands upon sculptural animal feet, further reinforcing its dynamic zoomorphic character.

Although unsigned, the quality of casting, rich chocolate-brown patination, deeply undercut modeling, and ambitious multi-animal composition closely relate to documented works produced by the Genryusai Seiya workshop.
