A striking American Art Nouveau silver overlay decanter, attributed to the Alvin Silver Company and dating to the early twentieth century, circa 1905–1915. Gracefully proportioned with a bulbous body rising to a long tapering neck, the decanter is lavishly decorated with finely engraved silver overlay depicting intertwining grapevines arranged within an elegant ribbon lattice. Clusters of ripe grapes, curling tendrils, and beautifully detailed leaves completely envelop the vessel, creating an intricate decorative surface that rewards close examination.

The motif is both ornamental and symbolic. Throughout European decorative arts, the grapevine has long represented abundance, hospitality, prosperity, and the enjoyment of fine wine, making it an especially fitting decoration for an elegant serving vessel.
