Antique German Santa Claus figure crafted of crepe paper, composition, spun cotton, and mixed media, retaining its original "Made in Germany" stamp and displayed beneath a fitted glass dome with turned wood base. Dating to the 1920s–1930s, this charming holiday figure captures the craftsmanship that made German Christmas decorations sought after throughout Europe and America during the early twentieth century.
Santa wears a vibrant red crepe-paper coat and cap trimmed in spun cotton, with a finely modeled hand-painted composition face, expressive blue eyes, a flowing spun cotton beard and mustache, blue-gloved hands, and glossy black boots. He cradles a large crepe-paper gift sack embellished with preserved greenery and red berries, while seated upon a painted cylindrical base.
The included glass cloche beautifully protects the delicate materials while creating an elegant display that can be enjoyed throughout the holiday season. A scarce and beautifully preserved example of early German Christmas craftsmanship for collectors of antique Santas and holiday décor.
