Henri Renon & Ezan
A stunning 1930-1940 French art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze. It holds six large opalescent cups in thick opalescent glass made by EJG the company of Jean Gauthier in its Ezan factories north from Paris. Opalescent molded-pressed semi-crystal shades became in fashion in the mid 30s. With beautiful tones of milky blue or warm amber depending whether light falls on or shines through the glass. The model shades of this chandelier do not exist signed. Petitot, as well as other manufacturers of high-quality art deco lighting, made chandeliers using these shades. The chandelier on offer was made by Henri Renon and shows his foundry mark HR on the inside of the six arms. Renon was producer of bronze and wrought iron lighting fixtures during the interbellum and had his workshop and showroom at 13 rue de Payenne in Paris in a 16th century hôtel particulier 'Hôtel Chatillon'. You can still find the companyname at the gate.
As you can see on one of the pictures I do have two identical chandeliers. The price is for one chandelier.
The chandelier is in excellent condition. The fixture has been re-plated. It has a height of 77 cm (30,31") and is 70 cm wide (27,56"). The shades have a diameter of 21 cm. They are thick and heavy. 1,17 kilo per shade. The chandelier is rewired. It holds six American candelabra base sockets.

Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in molded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
