While currently finished in a distressed cream lacquer overcoat, the true historical value of this piece lies beneath. The underside reveals a heavily oxidized, thick, solid-plank hardwood seat featuring authentic hand-planing ridges and tool marks from a hand adze. The turned legs are driven completely through the heavy seat using traditional wedged through-tenon joinery—a hallmark technique of early regional woodwrights.

Constructed from dense, old-growth hardwoods (likely maple and oak or poplar) that give the chair a substantial, bottom-heavy weight, this unbranded piece is a beautiful example of localized rural craftsmanship.
