This long, narrow bands were originally crafted as decorative cuffs or borders for traditional Chinese robes and were later preserved by mounting and framing them as decorative wall art. They were designed to be detachable, allowing them to be easily transferred to different garments or cleaned without damaging the main robe.
It features a vibrant yellow central panel framed by a contrasting black border, entirely decorated with intricate satin stitch and couching embroidery. The design showcases symmetrical arrays of blue chrysanthemums, peonies, and lilies interspersed with detailed butterflies and songbirds. In Chinese culture, butterflies symbolize longevity and marital bliss, while chrysanthemums and peonies represent autumn, longevity, and wealth.
