The tall turned-wood column is finished in a rich black lacquer and decorated with hand-painted Asian motifs in gold and polychrome, including a graceful figure holding a parasol, a flying crane, small birds, and floral accents that continue onto the circular base.

The lamp stands approximately 68 inches tall with a 14-inch diameter base and is topped with a classic white fabric shade. The silhouette is bold and architectural, with stacked, bulbous turnings that give it excellent presence in a room.

A classic example of Chinoiserie lighting from the first decades of the 20th century, this piece bridges Orientalist decorative traditions with the glamorous Hollywood Regency aesthetic that would become so popular a generation later.
