A handsome pair of Eames molded shell side chairs on the classic dowel-leg base — one in a nice dark black, and one in a soft warm Sparrow Grey, a pairing that reads beautifully together without being an exact match.

Charles and Ray Eames introduced the shell chair in 1950 with the goal of putting good design within everyone's reach, and seventy-five years on it remains one of the most quietly perfect objects of the twentieth century. The gently scooped seat, the waterfall front edge, the graphic black wire strut work, and the splayed maple dowel legs that give the whole thing its iconic look.

These are 2014 production examples, so you get authentic, well-made construction with the patina of a few years of real use. Endlessly versatile — pull them up to a dining table, flank a console, or use one at a desk. Sold as a pair.

Very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use. Some light scratching on shell backs and some small abrasions on legs but overall present well. Shells are structurally sound and the bases are solid. See less
