A Victorian railway/tram station bench with a working reversible backrest. The flip mechanism, supported by its original cast iron brackets, allowed waiting passengers to face whichever platform their train/tram was departing from.

Built from solid pitch pine, which was the timber of choice for Victorian public furniture precisely because it could take punishment.
