The richly carved apron, decorated with scrolling foliage, together with the front legs ending in lion’s paws, gives the piece a particularly strong sculptural presence.

The softly worn, matte patina highlights the grain of the walnut and lends the chair an almost Brutalist quality, while its age-worn character also makes it particularly suited to a contemporary wabi-sabi interior.

Its generous proportions and monumental silhouette make it more than a period-inspired seat: it is a domestic sculpture, capable of anchoring a room on its own.

The chair was later reupholstered in a natural ecru fabric, whose restrained tone complements the warmth of the patinated walnut. The upholstery presents the character and minor marks expected from age.

The frame has a slight amount of play consistent with its age, without affecting normal use.
