This is a one-of-a-kind ceramic table lamp base, an artist's studio original, decorated by hand with William Morris's "Corncockle" pattern. Morris designed Corncockle in 1883 for Morris & Co., and it is a well-known botanical pattern of the British Aesthetic Movement and Victorian design reform. It has dense, interlocking floral and foliate motifs with layered linework.
The pattern is applied by hand in two variations of the design, one on the body and one on the neck, to a bottle-neck vase form with a long, tapered neck and a wide, rounded shoulder. The look suits Aesthetic Movement, Victorian revival, modern decor, English country, traditional, cottage, Grandmillennial, and maximalist interiors.
