These are … Read more Chinese Double Happiness Ginger Jar that has Ming Dynasty marks but probably dates to early 20th Century 1930. These are notoriously hard to date because there is kiln grit in the porcelain. A sign of an older jar fired on a wood fired kiln, and there is more decoration than in more modern pieces. The peony decoration on the jar is not uniform in color, a sign it was done by hand by one person, dipping their brush in and out of the indigo. It is very heavy. Double Happiness Ginger Jars are traditional Chinese porcelain vessels featuring the shuangxi (Double Happiness) character.
