The chair … Read more This piece is a diminutive Napoleon II Gothic Revival accent armchair, popular during the mid-to-late 19th century C.1870–1890
The chair features a high, openwork backrest with a hand-carved, stylized open crest rail. It incorporates spindle-turned armrest supports, a black ebonized or dark-stained finish, and turned legs typical of period salon miniatures.
It has a padded inset back panel and a stuffed seat covered in a bold leopard/cheetah pattern velvet or velour. While animal print accents were utilized in eccentric late-Victorian design, it is common for pieces like this to have been reupholstered in a modern fabric later in its life to give it a "Hollywood Regency" or maximalist flair.
Very good antique condition, consistent with age and use.
