Introduced in the 1950s, the Saarinen Executive Chair brought elegance and comfort to the then-drab world of office space and executive seating. Recognizing the importance of user comfort, Saarinen became the first to construct a chair shell from fiberglass, a pliable material that flexes in response to body weight. With its timeless shape, graceful and balanced proportions and modern upholstery options, the Saarinen Executive Chair is now more frequently used in the dining room and is available with and without arms, with metal or wood legs and with optional swivel base. This unique set of armless side chairs features black tubular metal legs, fixed base and upholstered seat and backrest in striking Knoll Arrondissement fabric in “Champagne”; a standout set for dining room or conference room. Knoll logo fabric dust protectors and Knoll product content labels to underside of chairs.

Eero Saarinen
Eero Saarinen (1910–1961) was one of the most influential architects and furniture designers of the twentieth century. Working closely with Knoll, he created some of the company’s most iconic furniture, including the Executive, Womb, and Tulip Chairs. Unlike many architects of his era, Saarinen believed that every project should have its own distinct design language rather than a single recognizable style. His willingness to approach each commission as a unique design problem made him one of the defining figures of modern American architecture. His landmark architectural works include the TWA Flight Center at New York’s JFK Airport, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C.

Knoll
Founded in 1938, Knoll has been one of the most influential manufacturers of modern and mid century modern furniture through collaborations with many of the twentieth century’s leading architects and designers, including Eero Saarinen, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertoia, and Florence Knoll. The company continues to produce many of the most iconic furniture designs of the modern movement and remains internationally recognized for its commitment to quality, innovation, and timeless design.

CONDITION
Excellent vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Minor wear and a few scattered light stains to upholstery expected with normal use over time.
