Bombe shape with scrolling … Read more 19th Century French carved and gilded altar stand, display riser to elevate ecclesiastic statue or reliquary. Bombe shape with scrolling acanthus feet and carved cross hatching. Water gilding over gesso, top is covered in faded silk velvet edged with metallic lace trim.
Symbolic decoration with the lamb resting on the book of seven seals surrounded by a radiant sunburst. The back is left plain because it is designed for the front to be facing out with the back toward the altar. Top surface for display is 10" x 11".
Original age-distressed finish with authentic flaking, exposed gesso layers, and warm red bole undertones peeking through the gold leaf. Lovely as is, but a professional could restore it. See less
