Elegant vintage, beautifully aged, Japanese 4-panel painted Byobu (folding screen) on gold background, depicts a scene inspired by the 11th century classic work of Japanese literature "The Tale of Genji" written by the noblewoman and poet, lady Murasaki Shikibu. Unsigned. Gold pigment, gouache, watercolor and ink on paper. Silk border. Lacquered black wood frame. Paper and worn original label on back. Japan, Showa Era, circa 1960s. Good condition for age - some age wear overall, not very noticeable water damage on the 2nd panel (image #13), some staining on silk border, repairs on paper back, strong hinges, clean, sturdy.
