A pair of life-size recumbent cast iron Greyhound or Whippet dogs by renowned maker J. W. Fiske foundry of New York. Circa. Late 1800's. Covered with distressed white paint. Exceptional garden statues rarely found in a pair. Originally made to adorn gardens in wealthy estates and mansions. J. W. Fiske foundry was founded in 1858 by Joseph Winn Fiske, the J.W. Fiske Iron Works was the premier 19th-century American manufacturer of ornamental cast iron, zinc, and copper. Famous for its intricate garden fountains, weathervanes, and sculptures.
