This is an exceptional example of late 19th-century Chinese porcelain art, presented as a complete three-piece set (the lidded cup and its original ornate carved wood stand).
The gaiwan is meticulously hand-painted with detailed Famille Rose (Fencai) enamel decoration. The exterior is adorned with continuous scenes featuring elegant courtly figures engaged in conversation and leisurely pursuits, characteristic of "cabbage leaf" or "palace scene" motifs.
