Brought to the United States mid-century by luxury giftware importer ISCO (International Shipping Company), this substantial piece features a rich coral and iron-red ground embellished with intricate gilt karakusa scrollwork and geometric medallion diaper patterns.

The main focal point of the cylinder features a large, beautifully detailed central cartouche displaying a classic Japanese "Flower Cart" (Goshoguruma) motif. The cartouche is overflowing with a stylized, multi-colored display of chrysanthemums, peonies, and sprawling cherry blossom branches.
