Each plate presents six finely engraved oval and rectangular compositions depicting mythological figures, allegorical scenes, and classical narratives that formed part of one of the most celebrated decorative interiors of the French Renaissance. Originally executed during the sixteenth century for King Francis I, Primaticcio's decorative program helped establish the Fontainebleau School, blending Italian Renaissance ideals with French courtly taste. These engravings preserve the delicate compositions and expressive figures with remarkable clarity, making them valuable records of one of France's greatest artistic achievements.
