An iconic and highly coveted pair of Mid‑Century Modern Vladimir Kagan serpentine cloud sofas for Directional, circa 1970s. These sculptural, curvaceous masterpieces showcase Kagan’s groundbreaking biomorphic design language—instantly recognizable and endlessly desirable among collectors, designers, and luxury buyers.
The sofas retain their original rich burgundy red Ultrasuede upholstery, beautifully complementing the dramatic kidney‑shaped serpentine silhouette. Each piece rests on cylindrical plinth pedestal bases with central supports of transparent Lucite, creating Kagan’s signature floating effect and allowing the sculptural form to shine from every angle.
Designed for intimate conversation and effortless lounging, the pair offers a striking presence in any interior—showstopping statement pieces that anchor a room with sophistication, movement, and unmistakable designer pedigree. Their sculptural lines make them visually compelling from all viewpoints, a hallmark of Kagan’s most celebrated work.
Vladimir Kagan is widely regarded as one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, with a devoted following that included icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol. His pieces remain among the most collectible and investment‑worthy works in modern design.
Both sofas retain their original Directional manufacturer labels on the underside, confirming authenticity.
