ENTRYWAY COLLECTION - Grand Tour Style
A beautifully preserved late 19th century Chinese Qing cloisonné opium tray, complete with its original screw-top oil burner, chained brass snuffer, three foo dog-mounted compartment covers, and six matching cloisonné enamel dishes. Rich cobalt blue cloisonné with intricate scrolling wirework and stylized floral motifs is framed by a substantial bronze mount with pierced handles and ball feet. The original burner remains intact—a rarity, as these components were frequently lost over time.
More than a decorative object, this complete cloisonné set reflects the ritualized preparation of opium during the late Qing Dynasty. The burner, covered compartments, and enamel dishes were designed to organize the tools and accessories used in the smoking ceremony. An exceptional Qing cloisonné tray that displays beautifully in a library, cabinet, or sophisticated collection of Chinese antiques. Ready for your home.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE
Many surviving Chinese opium trays are incomplete, having lost their burner, compartment covers, or small enamel dishes over decades of use and dispersal. Examples that retain their original components, as this one does, are increasingly difficult to find and are especially prized by collectors for their historical integrity and completeness.
