Very fine and rare set of 4 Queen Anne style side chairs. The top features a prominent hand painted gilt shell motif on a wavy crest rail. Below is an elongated fiddleback central splat, a classic hallmark of the Queen Anne period. The front legs showcase a distinct S-curve silhouette. The knees of the legs are accented with carved gilt shells. The legs terminate in ball and claw feet. The chairs feature a dark green painted finish. All chairs have a caned drop-in seat, they come with custom made cushions. The design and construction suggests New England origin. A similar chair is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York in the American Wing.
The condition is good. The chairs are structurally sound. Some scuffing on the edges is noticed.
