Dating … Read more A wonderfully dramatic three-piece Hollywood Regency living-room table suite comprising a rectangular coffee table and two matching end tables. Dating to approximately the 1970s, the set combines glossy black lacquered frames with fine gilt pinstriping, faux-bamboo molding and distinctive geometric Greek-key feet.
The inset tops are the real showstoppers: aged chartreuse-yellow leather panels decorated with tooled geometric corner designs and delicate ornamental borders. Their beautifully mottled surfaces provide a striking flash of color against the architectural black frames. Open lower shelves offer generous display and storage space without making the tables appear visually heavy.
The combination of Asian-inspired faux bamboo, Greek-key geometry and lacquered glamour recalls the sophisticated interiors of James Mont and Maison Jansen, although no maker’s mark has been located and the set is being offered without attribution.
A highly photogenic suite with enough visual presence to anchor a living room, library or dramatic Hollywood Regency interior. These pieces could also work beautifully in a modern setting, where the chartreuse leather would provide an unexpected and very stylish shot of color.
