A wonderfully atmospheric vintage table lamp featuring a sculptural bronze-finished base formed as a pair of elegant cranes or herons. Their elongated necks rise alongside a tall, vase-shaped central standard, while carefully modeled feathers wrap around the lower body and circular foot.
The lamp is completed by a paneled amber-brown mica shade edged in dark metal. One panel is decorated with the silhouette of a sailing ship, producing a warm, moody glow when illuminated.
The combination of sinuous bird forms, rich copper-colored highlights and naturally variegated mica gives the lamp an unusual meeting of Art Nouveau, Japonisme and American Arts and Crafts design. It would be especially handsome in a library, study, Craftsman interior or masculine coastal room.
