Step into a studio-turned-sanctuary. This sale features a series of original works born from a fascination with the ornate and organic. Every seashell has been curated, delicate artisan crafted cherubs are a celebration of texture and form. These are not mere collected objects, they are handmade totems of a world where the sea meets the cathedral.
Created and signed by Joanne H. Foray with all thrifted and up cycled elements, including a large estate of shells rescued and incorporated into 60 pieces of art and decor. Artist would like to note the vintage shell collection includes some of the most strictly regulated shells in the country, many Queen Conch which are on the endangered species list and can no longer be farmed, and coral which is endangered, as well.
Although it looks like a delicate sculpture, this piece began its life as a heavy, industrial 55 gallon steel oil drum. The artist goes through a rigorous manual process of splitting the barrel in half and hammering it flat. They use a simple hammer, chisel, and a spike to cut out the shape and create the texture and detail. This one depicts a mermaid scene and has been left untreated.
