A fine 19th century French Louis Philippe Period miniature commode, or sample chest. Hand-crafted of solid walnut with book matched veneer of walnut. Beautiful wood pattern. Four dovetailed drawers with brass button knobs. Turned feet in the front and block feet in back. French polish finish. Often called an apprentice or "sample" piece (maîtrise), these high-quality miniatures were built by 19th century craftsmen to demonstrate mastery over complex veneer techniques or to showcase furniture designs to wealthy clients before committing to full-sized builds. Perfect for storing treasured objects or for use as a jewelry box or men's watch box. Circa 1820-1840
