Beautiful antique wooden corpus christi (body of christ) sculpture, dating from approximately the early 18th century; presumably flemish.

exquisite woodcarving and polychrome craftsmanship, featuring great detail and a divine facial expression. The figure is currently mounted on a modern pvc stand but can easily be removed for display on a cross or wall.

a slender physique, knees bent forward, a head with long hair and a beard (inclined towards the left chest), closed eyes, clenched fists, a wound in the rib area, a loincloth with a fold secured by a cord, the face turned downwards to the right, a slightly rounded abdomen, and pronounced feet and toes are among the characteristic stylistic features of this type of 18th-century corpus.

in good antique condition; the left hand is missing, and there is some damage to the polychrome finish. The figure bears a beautiful aged patina—please see the photos for details!
