Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) (after) Portrait of Doctor Gachet Engraving Unsigned On laid paper, 32 x 25 cm INFORMATION: The Portrait of Dr. Gachet (also known as "The Man with the Pipe) is the only etching created by Van Gogh. Having settled in Auvers-sur-Oise on May 20, 1890, Van Gogh frequented Dr. Gachet, who introduced him to intaglio printing. On May 25, he completed this famous portrait in just half an hour. Sixty-one copies were printed at the time. In order to make this exceptional engraving accessible, the Artfever gallery commissioned a new edition: the plate was engraved by J. Boiteux from the copy kept at the National Library of France (and in a slightly larger dimension than the original to avoid any confusion) and the print made on old paper in the traditional way, pulled by hand on a hand press, in an intaglio workshop. Excellent condition This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
