This credenza is a rarity among Vladimir Kagan pieces -- and it is an absolute knockout. Featuring a rosewood top and sides with a crisp white lacquered body and chrome accents, all floating on a pair of tall acrylic legs, the kind of legs Kagan built his legacy on, seen in his Omnibus sofa, Erica chaise, coffee tables, and cloud sofas for Directional.
Vladimir Kagan (1927-2016) is one of the true titans of American mid-century design, a German-born, New York-based designer whose sculptural, body-conscious furniture reshaped how Americans thought about comfort and form. Trained under his father, master cabinetmaker Illi Kagan, Vladimir opened his own studio in the early 1950s and never looked back, producing icons like the Serpentine sofa, the Unicorn chair, and countless pieces for his Kagan-Dreyfuss and Vladimir Kagan Designs labels that remain wildly collectible today.
Alongside Kagan's signature acrylic legs, this credenza carries his unmistakable curves paired with clean lines that flex effortlessly into nearly any interior. The rosewood grain against the white lacquer creates a two-tone contrast that feels both period-correct and completely current, exactly the kind of tension Kagan built his reputation on.
This piece has been expertly refinished and the bright white body plays beautifully off the rosewood. Labeled on the inside front left drawer, handmade in the workshops of Vladimir Kagan Designs, New York.
This credenza would look incredible in any mid century modern, modern, or contemporary home, right alongside other icons of the era like Milo Baughman, Paul Evans, Karl Springer, and Pierre Jeanneret. We currently have this piece styled with a Paul Evans dining table, Pierre Jeanneret chairs, and a Karl Springer mirror, and it holds its own beautifully in that lineup while making its own clean, refined statement. Absolutely one of a kind.
