This is a Charles McMurray-designed chair, upholstered in the original mohair, which requires re-upholstery, and with original wear to the … Read more This is a Charles McMurray-designed chair, upholstered in the original mohair, which requires re-upholstery, and with original wear to the solid wood legs, which would benefit from re-finishing. We can have this completed re-furbished from top to bottom by buyer request. The chair is currently offered in the existing condition.

The geometric semicircular elements of the chair point to Mr. McMurray's architectural restrained whimsy. This chair has become increasingly rare to acquire. It is only the third time in two decades we have had the honor of offering it.

Charles McMurray studied painting, sculpture and the graphic arts while pursuing a degree in Architecture at the School of Design at North Carolina State University. After completing a Diploma in Civic Design at the University of Edinburgh, he worked in the architectural offices of Eero Saarinen, Kevin Roche/John Dinkeloo, A.G. Odell and Harry Wolf before opening his own architectural / planning office In 1971.

McMurray's strong interest in building interiors led him to design and develop a collection of furniture which he began manufacturing in 1981 as Charles McMurray Designs. The sale of the furniture company in 1998 allowed him to again pursue his interest in sculpture, painting and the graphic arts. See less
