Barbara Lynch Zinkel created and published limited-edition serigraph prints and wool rugs that are hand-tufted and hand-carved. A long-time resident of Birmingham, Mich., Zinkel published her first limited-edition serigraph print in 1978 and began distributing them nationally the following year. She published more than 40 limited editions which have been shown in galleries across the United States and represented by interior designers throughout the world. Born in Minneapolis, Minn., Zinkel earned a BA in Political Science from the University of California in Berkeley, Cal. In l969, she began her art education with color and interior design courses at Wayne State University in Detroit. Zinkel also taught color courses in Wayne State’s Adult Education Program. From 1974 to 1978, Zinkel studied under Robert Kidd, founder of the Robert Kidd Gallery in Birmingham, Mich. and former fiber department head of Cranbrook Art Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. She began exploring design and color in the discipline of weaving before moving to limited-edition serigraph prints. Zinkel became known for her dramatic use of color with many of her works containing as many as 50 colors. In addition to being selected for numerous prestigious show houses and exhibitions, Zinkel’s work has been featured in major media outlets including Hour Detroit Magazine, The Detroit News, Better Homes and Garden’s Decorating Magazine, Fine Living Television’s “Mail Order Makeover” and on the set of NBC’s “Law and Order.”
