Victorian Cannon-Form Cigar Companion Box
Late 19th Century
Whimsical Victorian smoking accessory modeled as a field cannon mounted atop a richly finished hardwood case. The cannon is detailed with spoked wheels, simulated riveted construction, and silver mounted wheel rims, reflecting the period's fascination with military motifs and mechanical ingenuity. The barrel functions as a match receptacle, while an integrated guillotine cigar cutter mounted to the side provides a practical means of trimming cigar tips.
A cylindrical match holder with serrated striker is positioned beside the cannon, and the molded octagonal case conceals two small drawers for the storage of cigars, matches, or other smoking requisites. Decorative metal studding throughout enhances the robust, artillery-inspired design.
Combining utility with humor and craftsmanship, this unusual object exemplifies the Victorian taste for novelty smoking accessories, transforming an instrument of war into an elegant and entertaining desktop companion. Intended for display in a gentleman's study, smoking room, or club, it serves as both a functional cigar accessory and a distinctive conversation piece. Great Father's Day gift!!
