A rare matched pair of large Federal-style convex mirrors, each crowned by a finely modeled spread-wing eagle above an elaborate composition and carved giltwood frame. Laurel branches, floral rosettes, scrolling acanthus, beaded borders, and shell-form pendants create a richly architectural silhouette, while the convex glass introduces the distinctive panoramic reflection associated with traditional bullseye mirrors.
At 46 inches high, the pair has substantial presence without feeling overly formal. They would be particularly striking flanking a doorway, fireplace, or sideboard, or placed opposite one another in an entry hall or dining room. Their softly aged gilding lends warmth to English country, Regency, and classically layered American interiors.
