This monumental Mid-Century Murano chandelier is a dramatic masterclass in Venetian glassmaking, translating the romance of an Italian spring into a sculptural statement piece. Handcrafted by master artisans in the historic Venetian lagoon in the manner of Ercole Barovier, the fixture commands immediate attention with its rare, deep aubergine hue. Far from a flat or uniform purple, this authentic art glass features a sophisticated, dynamic chameleon hue that shifts beautifully under varying light conditions. This moody, deep plum tone is a triumph of historic glass chemistry, achieved through the precise, expert introduction of manganese dioxide to the molten silica batch.
The resulting transparent glass possesses an ethereal, jewel-like depth that transforms based on its environment; it rests as a rich, smoky aubergine in quiet daylight, but shifts seamlessly into a radiant, warm amethyst violet when illuminated from within. The true testament to its elite artisan quality lies in its breathtaking, ultra-thin construction. The glass is blown to an astonishing, delicate thinness that requires immense breath control and unparalleled physical mastery—a specialized discipline reserved exclusively for elite Murano maestros. Despite its grand, monumental 46-inch scale, the masterfully blown glass keeps the fixture at an incredibly graceful, lightweight 25 lbs.
The sweeping, dramatic arms showcase the historic Ritorto technique, where the artisan hand-manipulates the molten glass while it is red-hot, twisting and pulling the material to create a continuous, spiraling ribbed texture along the core of each arm. This fluted structure acts as a complex prism, capturing the light from within and scattering brilliant, shimmering reflections across the room. Contrasting the crisp lines of the twisted arms are the fluid, organic details texturing the piece, including fine, fin-like glass crimping along the upper arches.
The fixture is adorned with stunning botanical elements, featuring four large shades gracefully sculpted to resemble drooping flower heads in full bloom, perfectly balanced by a delicate pair of hand-formed violets rising elegantly on slender glass stems from the central bowl. Evoking a commanding, theatrical presence, this singular fixture offers a spectacular focal point for premier residential projects. It serves as a striking, luxurious tribute to mid-century Italian design, bringing an undeniable allure, sophisticated scale, and poetic elegance to a grand entryway, dining salon, or avant-garde living space.
Requires a canopy and chain, which is not included. H=37 in. W=46 in. D=46 in. 25 lbs.
