A contemporary Art Deco embossed serigraoh on paper titled "Athena" by Erté. Hand signed on the lower right with an annotation of 149/300 on the lower left. Published in 1986. This artwork reimagines the Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, and the arts through the glamorous lens of Art Deco design. The figure is depicted with signature elegance—draped in a gold gown with flowing patterns and adorned with an elaborate feathered headdress in vivid blue and silver tones. She stands poised before a stark black circle, creating a bold visual contrast and lending the composition a sense of drama and iconography. Embossed elements enhance the texture and depth, emphasizing Erté's mastery of decorative form and theatrical styling. This work is a striking example of Erté’s ability to blend mythology, fashion, and timeless beauty into a singular vision. Dimensions: 42.25 inches tall, 35.25 inches wide, and 1.5 inches depth (framed). In good vintage condition.
Erté (1892–1990) born Romain de Tirtoff in Russia, was a legendary illustrator, designer, and artist whose work epitomized the elegance of the Art Deco movement. Celebrated for his theatrical costume and set designs for the Folies Bergère and Hollywood productions, Erté also contributed over 200 covers to Harper’s Bazaar during the 1910s and 1920s. His mastery of line, form, and ornamentation made him a central figure in 20th-century decorative arts. He was honored with solo exhibitions at major institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Today, Erté’s work is held in prestigious museum collections worldwide and remains iconic in fashion, design, and fine art circles.
