This exceptional lounge chair with matching ottoman is a striking example of the constructive, minimalist design language of 1970s european design. The chair was made by wk möbel, deutsche werkstätten für wohnkunst (german workshops for interior design), and is attributed to hans eichenberger based on its design and construction.
the distinctive black wooden frame forms an almost architectural supporting structure: robust round timbers, clean lines, and visible joints give the design its graphic presence. In exciting contrast, the softly suspended leather surfaces of the seat and backrest are seamlessly integrated. The combination of black, firm saddle leather and light, supple leather lends the chair a special elegance and simultaneously underscores its craftsmanship. The matching ottoman consistently echoes the materials and construction, completing the ensemble.
the condition is exceptionally good: the black wooden frame of both the chair and ottoman is in first-class condition. The light leather shows only minimal, age-appropriate signs of wear. The black saddle leather is also very well preserved. All seams and transitions between the black saddle leather and the light leather are flawless and undamaged. The armchair offers exceptional seating comfort.
hans eichenberger is one of the most important swiss designers of the post-war modern era. His designs are characterized by constructive clarity, functional precision, and a restrained, enduring aesthetic. This lounge ensemble also shows clear parallels to eichenberger's work: the visible supporting structure, the separation of frame and seat, and the masterful combination of comfort and structural rigor.
in the 1960s and 1970s, wk möbel included selected seating furniture and designs from the circle of the swiss manufacturer strässle in its own product line. This connection is documented, among other things, by the well-known king chair by andré vandenbeuck, which is associated with both strässle and wk möbel. The present model also demonstrates a design and construction affinity with swiss designs of that period. However, definitive archival confirmation of the specific model name and authorship is not currently available; therefore, the attribution is deliberately cautious.
a rare lounge ensemble with a strong sculptural presence – elegant, structurally sound, and of high-quality craftsmanship. Ideal for collectors, design-oriented living spaces, and sophisticated interior design projects. This piece has an attribution mark,
