This set features "Pala" vases, recognized … Read more 1960's Finnish blown glass vases designed by Helena Tynell and produced by Riihimaen Lasi. This set features "Pala" vases, recognized by their textured, bubble-like appearance. The ice cube" or "bark" vases were designed in 1964 and manufactured in various sizes and colors until 1976. The vases are crafted from mould-blown glass. They were originally designed to hold delicate arrangements but are now highly collectible decorative objects. The set includes two large vases, two small vases, and one small-tall vase. The yellow vase is uranium glass. The vases feature segmented, square, mold-blown shapes and in varied sizes and shapes. The vases are not marked. They are in good condition for their age and use, with minor chips to edges consistent with age. Dimensions of the largest vase: 4.5" H X 4" W x 4" D.

Helena was a notable Finnish glass designer who is considered to be a pioneer of Finnish glass art. She began her career in 1943 designing for Arabia of Finland. She also worked for Taito designers- a design bureau part-owned by her future husband and fellow designer, Paavo Tynell. In 1946, having decided to focus exclusively on glass, she left Arabia to join the major Finnish glass manufacturer, Riihimäki Glass, where she remained for most of her career. Paavo is considered to be a leader in Finnish design, with Helena's career being over shadowed. In recent years, Helena's designs have grown in popularity and price. See less
