Made around 1890 following the traditional Windsor construction method with steam-bent bows and spindled backs, these chairs carry a documented British military and institutional history: the undersides of the seats show a fire-branded War Department crown mark plus various arrow/chevron inspection stamps and a later hand-painted army inventory number, indicating continued official service well into the 20th century. The pieces are structurally sound and fit for daily use, with only minor age-related wear (light historic woodworm, natural movement in the elm) consistent with their age. The unrestored surfaces retain their original character, making this a genuinely characterful, one-of-a-kind survivor set rather than a uniform reproduction batch. Versatile enough for farmhouse, wabi-sabi, rustic-minimalist or contemporary interiors. See less
