An exceptional monumental Chinese Rose Medallion porcelain palace fish bowl, exquisitely hand-painted with traditional court scenes, flowering peonies, butterflies, birds, auspicious objects, and richly detailed famille rose enamels accented with gilt borders. The interior is beautifully decorated with swimming goldfish, a traditional Chinese symbol of prosperity, abundance, and good fortune.
Palace fish bowls of this impressive scale were prized in China for centuries, adorning the courtyards and gardens of wealthy estates, temples, and official residences. Originally used to display ornamental goldfish and lotus plants, today they remain among the most sought-after forms in Chinese decorative arts.
This substantial porcelain example is presented on a carved rosewood stand and is in excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The porcelain has a beautiful clear ring, indicative of a well-fired body.
A breathtaking statement piece, it may be displayed traditionally on its rosewood stand in an entry hall or garden room, or removed from the stand and repurposed as an extraordinary centerpiece on a large dining table, oversized coffee table, or library table. It also makes a dramatic cachepot for an interior tree, orchids, or lush floral arrangement.
Whether used in a grand Chinoiserie interior, a classic traditional home, or an eclectic designer space, this monumental palace fish bowl is both a work of art and a timeless decorative centerpiece.
Includes the carved rosewood stand. Also included at no additional charge is a round glass top, offering several additional ways to use the piece. With the bowl elevated on its stand, the glass top transforms it into a striking dining or occasional table. For a lower profile, the bowl may be used without the stand and topped with the glass to create a dramatic coffee table.
The glass top has surface scratches from use. Please note that the rosewood stand has a crack; it currently appears stable, but the condition of the stand should be taken into consideration if using it to support the bowl and glass top.
