This Marc Chagall rare vintage 1959 Mourlot fine art lithograph print " The Painter in Rose " custom framed French Mid Century Modernist Paris exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs - Palais Du Louvre Pavillon De Marsan, Paris. Printed in France in 1959 in an unnumbered limited edition of 1500 by Mourlot Imp. Paris, on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition at The Museum of Decorative Arts, palace of The Louvre, Paris. It features an iconic artwork image created by Chagall titled " The Painter in Rose " ( Le Peintre en Rose ).

Marc Chagall ( 1887 - 1985 ) the French Russian born Jewish Expressionist artist is known for his sense of color and fluid aesthetic. His early Modernist artworks explore concepts and themes of spirituality, angelic influences, and the Jewish cultural life human experience. Chagall is commonly regarded as the quintessential preeminent Jewish artist of The 20th Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color , and creations in nearly every medium and form of art won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art. Artworks by Chagall are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot Family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
This fine art lithograph poster is from the collaboration and important long lasting partnership between the artist Chagall and Atelier Mourlot who together would create many important art posters. An example of this same fine art poster is held in the archive collection of The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs Paris, The Museum of Modern Art New York, and other prestigious museums worldwide.
In the 1930's Fernand Mourlot invited the major master artists of the time in the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithography plates to create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.
The Pavillon De Marsan built in the 1660's, since 1897 has been a part of The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs. The Paris museum located in the city's 1st Arrondissement, occupies The Pavillon De Marsan. With approximately one million objects in its collection, it is the largest museum of decorative arts in Continental Europe.
The rare out of print fine art lithograph print framed French Modernist exhibition poster measures 26 1/4" W X 35 1/2" H X 3/4" D.
It is expertly presented top mounted on an archival ivory cream conservation matt board, custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Classical Modern subtle double scallop relief detailed satin eggshell finish black wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " very clean vintage condition consistent with age and very light signs of handling.
