Richly modelled and exceptionally detailed, the sculpture displays the romantic character and expressive movement associated with French figurative sculpture of the period.
The female figure is portrayed with long, flowing hair rendered in remarkable detail. One putto rests playfully on her shoulder and interacts with her hair, while a second putto sits near her feet beneath sculpted foliage. Flowers, leaves and a finely modelled dragonfly further enrich the naturalistic composition.
The bronze has a warm brown patina and rests upon an ornate gilt-bronze base, creating an attractive contrast between the sculptural figure and the gold-toned lower section.
