Outstanding piece of art pottery by Ka-Kwong Hui (1922-2003) a Chinese-American artist who studied under the Wildenhains at Pond Farm, as well as Alfred University. Hui taught at Brooklyn Museum Art School, Douglass College and Rutgers University. In 1964-1965 he collaborated with legendary artist Roy Lichtenstein on a series of pop art female mannequin busts.
Age of this piece not known, but guesstimated to be 1960s or 1970s vintage.
Intriguing stoneware bottle form vase that appears to be wheel thrown and then hand altered, creating a sculptural spike relief texture. The glaze is a substantial brown and highlights the detailing of the spikes.
Measures 6"x 6"x 12". Production related variations. No chips or cracks, nil handling wear. Signed "Hui" as seen in the photographs, undated.
